- It helped reduce excess androgen levels in people with classic CAH
- It allowed people to lower their daily glucocorticoid (steroid) doses
- It was found to be both safe and effective in studies involving adults and children There are a few important things to keep in mind:
- It does not replace glucocorticoids — steroids are still needed to replace the cortisol your body can't make
- During times of illness, surgery, or physical stress, you still need adequate glucocorticoid coverage to avoid an adrenal crisis
- It is only approved for classic CAH, not nonclassic CAH
